Professional relationships and
professional values - Reflecting on my progress towards meeting the RTC's
Reflective
question: What do I do to establish working relationships with my äkonga, their
whänau and my colleagues and others to support the learning of those I teach?
With Akonga
- Treat all students fairly and with respect.
- Take an interest in students lifes outside of school.
- Students know that they can trust me
With Whanau:
- Make myself available to talk through a variety of communcation channels
- Show professionalism when communicating with parents
With Collegues:
- Take an active roll during staff/team meetings.
- Share education resources with others.
- Communicate openly and honestly with fellow teachers and support staff.
Next steps:
Do I communicate regluarly with Whanau? Do I ensure that communcations are primarily positive?
What can I do to more regularly communicate with Whanau in a positive way?
Drawing more attention to the blog an get parents to comment is one way to share the positive learning that is happening in the classroom. We could include photo's of the weeks MVP's....
Reflective
question: How do I show in my practice that I actively promote the well-being of
all äkonga for whom I am responsible?
I have done my best to create a classroom environment that is safe both emotionally and physically. Putdowns are not tollerated and incidences of bullying are taken seriously. Unnecessary physical contact is not tollerated. All efforts are made to manage behaviour effectively through a positive behaviour management programme.
Explicit teaching of the key competencies to help promote the concept of life-long learning.
Next Steps:
Do all my students feel empowered to share their ideas? Do other students respect others ideas? Are student ideas validated and accepted?
One of the things that I would like to encourage in my students is their ability to formulate their own view-point/perspective on a topic or issue. In order for this to be successful I need to establish an envoronment in which students feel empowered and confident to share without the fear of ridicule.
To establish this I will work with students to discuss how to react if someone says somthing that you think is strange or that you dont agree with. A role play would work well to develop this.
