Reflection 06/08

What is going well?


Modelling book is functioning well. Keeping the same structure as other subjects has helped with continuity and familiarity for both myself and the students.

A focus on deliberate acts of teaching and unpicking what good readers do has helped to put reading strategies students have previously learnt into context.

What could be improved?


Modelling and explaining is an area that I need to further refine. It is important to see how a good reader operates so that they can mimic these behaviours in their own reading. A greater use of think alouds will help with this.

Questioning is also something that I wish to further develop. Secondary questions to prompt the student's to explain their answers will, i.e why they think that will help them to articulate their thinking.
