Staff Meeting - 28/05/18 - Exploring the Principles/KC's of the NZC
What -
- Worked in teams and discussed what principles we are doing well and not so well in our teams.
- Reflected on what principles/KC's mean to us and how we can deliberately plan for these in our curriculum.
So What -
The restraints we put on the curriculum are our own....
Now that National Standards has been removed as a requirement, the focus shifts to the front part of the Curriculum. This is where the values/principles and KC's are found. Making a connection with my work around agency, it ties in with the idea that students can be the driving force behind change. Thinking more broadly about this, a lot of what we talked about links in with starting with the students and working out, rather than dictating to the students.
How would you plan for the principles/KC's?
In our team we talked a lot about inclusiveness. What really stood out for me is that inclusively is a lot to do with celebrating students for who they are. In terms of what we do in the classroom, there are many possible ways that this could come through. For example:
- Give students the opportunity to share with the class their success and achievements (inside and outside of school)
- Give students with expert knowledge the opportunity to teach and help others.
