Practising Teacher Criteria #4

Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional learning and development of personal professional practice

Key Indicators:
The teacher:
  1. identifies professional learning goals in consultation with colleagues
  2. participates responsively in professional learning opportunities within the learning community
  3. initiates learning opportunities to advance personal professional knowledge and skills.

Reflective Question:

How do I continue to advance my professional learning as a teacher?

I fully participate in school profession development opportunities, sharing my ideas and asking questions. After each session I always reflect on the new knowledge and information and how I can apply it to my teaching. I am a member of several teaching related Facebook groups as well as a New Zealand Literacy email group. I normally use these groups to find new resources and approaches to teachers, but sometimes offer support when questions are asked.

Where to Next?

In the future I will take a more active role in online teaching groups by participating more regularly. During the school holidays I plan to purchase some new teaching books and will read these during the break and apply my new learnings to improve student outcomes in 2017.
