Layers of Orthography
Big Idea:
Our focus is on spelling
Key Ideas/Messages that informed/or challenge my teaching practice
  • We need to be more systematic when teaching spelling.
  • Analysis of our data. Our primary purpose at this stage is to use the information to inform our teaching.
  • Sometime words are said differently to how they are spelt. Mother - Motha
  • Kids need to know that words are spelt differently to how they are said sometimes.
  • Thoughts on implementing this in our programme. Try different approaches during guided sessions - at the start of a sessions or as a stand alone.

Implications/Actions for my teaching practice
I am keen to see each group twice a week with one session being getting into the book and comp with the other session focusing on vocab/spelling.

There is a lot of teaching that needs to happen before students can complete independent spelling activities (word sorts)
