Key Ideas/Messages that informed/or challenge my teaching practice
|
Setting the scene is important, you as a facilitator are responsible for making sure the environment is suitable i.e chairs sensibly place, air flow and lighting etc.
There is not a list of things to follow when facilitating. It really depends on the group of people on that given day. For example . -we didn't have name tags as people already knew each other.
Start on time, welcome everyone, introductions - lollies in the same colours - can;t eat it until you have found something in common with the whole group.
Setting ground rules - Think about what rules you want and how you can facilitate so that the ground rules happen naturally.
Stick to the agenda - what ways can you support the group to get back on to the discussion
Everyone should go away with something. What fitted well with you about what wsa shared today
Be prepared to read groups body language
Language - Artificially extended sentences v condensed language. Keep language condensed and to the point.
Fidgeting reflects nervousness
um and aahing not so good.
make eye contact with a number of people.
Relax your shoulders
Give instructions one part at a time. Once groups are formed..outline task.
If someone has to share back, remind them toward the end of the allocated task time.

Implications/Actions for my teaching practice
|
What does it mean for me when I turn the key... (something that I will change when I turn the key into the classroom next time)
For me - setting the scene is something that I need to put thought into. forethought about the environment. Body language when presenting is important - knowing you content/agenda is something that helps give me confidence which reflects in how I present.
