Reflection - 28/08
How did I make a difference for one child today? What was it that you did?
One of my target students went through a period where he was losing control and made some bad choices. At this point he was very unsettled and at a point of losing control.
At the time I didn't make a big song and dance about the behaviours rather praised other students for managing distractions. Afterwards, I sat down with the student and we talked through his actions discussing what happened, why it happened, how he was feeling, who was impacted by his behaviour and how he can 'fix' things. Having the conversation in private and some time after the incident, gave him a chance to calm down and better process what happened. As a result, later in the afternoon, the student looked as though he was about to make the same mistakes, but instead of making a bad choice, he decided to use a strategy (going for a walk) to calm himself and get back into a better state of mind.
