Reflection - 05.02.19

  • How have you developed positive, effective relationships with your tamariki?

Starting each day with warm, positive welcomes and chatting with students about their interests and what is going in their lives outside of school. I have also started to make the effort to contact home to share positive comments with whanau to strengthen the link between home and school.

  • What has worked well?

- Students have really enjoyed the active activities that we have done
- Making a start on developing self directed learning skills has helped students to get used to working independently.
- Whenever students have had a choice and/or have had a say in what we are doing they have been more into it.

  • What requires further development?
-Sitting on the mat and listening to instructions. This is a problem area at the moment and their have been repeated issues with the same students coming up. I need to re-think how I approach this as there are a large number of students who are doing the right thing who are losing interest as they are getting distracted and losing focus due to the constant disruptions. I have learned that have students sit on the mat in the afternoon for a long period of time is like pissing into the wind.

On Thursday I will try for a more positive approach by praising those students who are doing the right things more and using low level strategies for those that are being distracting with the goal of keeping the lessons going and on track. I can also look to have more student interaction by providing more opportunities for them to talk and share - e,g. using T.P.S
