SO WHAT /WHAT NOW
What has been your greatest "a-ha" or takeaway moment from this morning? What will you do about it?
High expectations - we talked this morning about how having high expectations for students can help them to reach their potential and be the best verstion of themselves that they can be. This linkls in with the reading I have been doing (Visible learning) around the things teachers do that have the most impact on student developement. Having high expectations is one of the factors that has been measured to have a high impact on student developement. For my students, it will start with know where they are at the moment based on observations in the first few weeks and data that has come through 2018. I need to be careful not pigeoon hole students based on previous years data and start with a fresh slate. Maybe this is all some of the students need - someone to give them a chance or present learning in a different way that lights their fire and ignites in them a desire to learn and improve themselves.
New values - 'how will I introduce these values to the students'
I am weary of biting off too much too soon as these are all completely new and foreign to the students. Therefore, I will start with the value of Hauora as this fits nicely with start of the year activities.
