“Assessment for the purpose of improving student learning is best understood as an ongoing process
that arises out of the interaction between teaching and learning.” NZC, p.39

How does assessment, for the purpose of improving student learning, occur in your
classroom/setting?

One area that I use assessment to inform my teaching is for weekly number knowledge maintenance. The questions I use for this are based on identified hotspots from the students Term 1 knowledge tests.

Assessment also plays a large part in the next steps for students in groups. I used observations (recorded on my planning) to keep notes about what I have noticed during guided groups. This gives me an idea of which students need extra support, and which students are ready to move on or perhaps change groups.
