Reflection - 13.02.2023

The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. How can this relate to teaching and learning? To me this whakatauki relates to the small things. If we allow small things to continue unchecked, then they can quickly compound and build. Relating this to teaching and learning, the first thing that jumps to mind is how this relates to high expectations. If we expect, deliberately promote and praise students that strive to their potential, then this will become the norm in the class. Conversly, If we let little things slip through, i.e poor book presentation, students rushings through tasks, then students will quickly develop the expectation that this is ok. We need to model this as kaiako in the way we prepare for our lessons, demonstrating to students that putting in effort and being prepared are valued and important parts of being at CNS. Additionally, this ties in with me as a kaiako being a learner as well. I need to walk the talk and be prepared to push my limits and work to improve my capabilities.
