Reflection 26.08
Thinking back to our restorative practice introduction staff meeting with Jo and Alister, what changes have you made to the language that you use with your students and or what was one takeaway from the session that you have been able to implement.? What impact has this had?
One of the big takeaways for me that I have transferred into my practice is the language around how behaviours have a consequence. The language has centered around how all actions have consequences, whether they be positive or negative. The idea that a consequence is not a punishment and should align with the behaviour has been at the forefront of my thinking. It has made me reflect on what I implement as a follow-up to a behaviour incident. I have made a deliberate effort to ensure that the consequence I choose aligns with and redresses the behaviour that occurred. This might be making up for lost learning time, doing something to fix damage to property, or doing something nice for someone that has been negatively affected.
