Daily Reflection

01/05/2012

What am I proud of about today?

A more focused effort on recording my observations during reading sessions has made me more in tune with the needs of individual students. How could I make this easier for me to administer (I keep forgetting)

Maths lesson using real-life context worked well. Students were engaged and interested and a number of key maths skills were learned and practiced. Eg, measurement, estimation, decimalsm ratios and percentages.
What didn't go so well?

Guided reading - too many interuptions, indepedent workers off task making it difficult to effectively administered guided sessions.

How could this be improved?

- Use smily face system as used for maths to record student progress towards learnign goals.

- Some students seemed to be off task due to confusion over task specifics and expectations. Next time fit in 2 mins at the end of each guided session to explain the follow-up task and respond to any questions.

- Carried over (did not implement)
Strategies to engage disinterested student:

1. have a quite talk with her best friend in class and see if she can help motivate her.
2. Move the student to the front of the class so that I can ensure that they are tuned in and starting work promptly.
3. Involve this student with the Te Reo work we are doing in the classroom.
