Daily Reflection

30/04/2012

What am I proud of about today?

Behaviour management was much improved with more structured daily programme and a strict enforcement of classroom protocols. Guided sessions, both reading and writing, ran smoothly due to thorough preparation and consistent structuring. Question - How am I recording student progress towards learning goals during guided reading? i.e how do I know students have learned and are using comp strats?

What didn't go so well?

I am having trouble engaging the attention of one particular student who frequently tunes out and even outwardly refuses to participate and contribute ideas. This student is Maori.

How could this be improved?

Answer to question from first session - make anecdotal notes on planning sheet. Include observations taken from guided sessions and from pre-reading and follow-up activities.

Strategies to engage disinterested student:

1. have a quite talk with her best friend in class and see if she can help motivate her.
2. Move the student to the front of the class so that I can ensure that they are tuned in and starting work promptly.
3. Involve this student with the Te Reo work we are doing in the classroom.
