PLD - Rita Palmer - Student Agency - 23.03.2017

What is our goal - what is our end point - do we buy in to student agency.

What is students agency. Is it the same as Self-directed learning?

To truly be self-directed, you must have a sense of agency.

Learning is about the process

Students with agency are more likely to choose difficult tasks.

What will we see?

Behaviours:
  • Chooses to apply skills independently
  • Takes risks - asks questions - seeks support
  • Self aware
  • Understand the process
  • Collaborate

How do I plan my lessons to maximise the opportunities for students to practice these behaviours.

We Do: (Key Words) - to be unpacked.

  • Explicit
  • Engagement
  • Choice

Need to consider the type of language and feedback we give to help enable the behaviours of student agency.
