Team Visit to Amesbury School - 19/06/2018

  • Teachers were very in tune with where their students were at allowing strategic
decisions to be made around what to teach, when to teach it, and to who.
  • ICT was used to capture students data and identify trends.
  • Students were apart of the process and created their own goals and uploaded evidence.
  • Teachers kept students engaged through writing by having a genuine purpose that students
were excited about and could articulate.
  • Noise levels in the class were low with just a quiet learning buzz apparent.
You could not hear individual conversations from across the room

Takeaways…
  • What do I know about where my students are at? Starting afresh with my own class is a
good opportunity to take stock of where my students are at and look for trends/gaps.
  • In order to goal set, students need to be reflecting on what they are currently doing.
Currently, my students go through a reflection process in their writing (2glows and 1 grow),
The grow could be used as a goal for their next piece of writing. Seesaw could be used for
students to collect and share examples of work that meets their goal.
  • Writing for a purpose is something I try to do in my programme. Having more conversations
around how students will publish their work and to who will help continue to promote this.
  • It is my perception that the noise levels were low as this was an expectation that has been
taught and reinforced over a period of time. In the coming weeks I plan to have learning
conversations with students around what conditions help us produce our best learning - making
this explicit and delving into the ‘why’ behind the classroom being a learning environment that
allows students to concentrate.
