A fabulous struggle I am currently having and working through is..
Now that I have 'opened' up my programme and allowed more choice and variation, having accountability and checks and measures for level and amount of work is difficult.
I don't have a solution for this at this point ... perhaps have more sharing back opportunities, in partners and small groups, this will give students a focus for having their work complete. Also opening up opportunities for peer feedback will help students with things that they can work on. I am hoping that it will be more powerful if it comes from the students, rather than me.
More thoughts...
I am finding when students are given too broad a scope that they don't know where to begin or the possibilities available to them. In the future when starting a topic there needs to be an 'engage' phase where students are exposed to a range of different possibilities and options to provide a starter or something they can grab onto and build on.
